MAKING THE GRADE
July 19, 2014
"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every passerby leaves a mark." ~Chinese Proverb
The Peace Meal Project hosted a potluck dinner and school supply drive to benefit Crayons to Calculators, helping kids in need in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain school districts.
Guests donated school supplies and we filled backpacks with everything needed for going back to school.
The full backpacks were delivered to Crayons to Calculators to be distributed to the children.
CRAYONS TO CALCULATORS is a collaboration by five local nonprofits: Foothills United Way, I Have A Dream Foundation of Boulder County, Impact on Education, Sister Carmen Community Center, and Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley. Corporate sponsors are Western Disposal Services and the Daily Camera. Because of the extensive support received from these extraordinary organizations, students of the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain School Districts are better prepared for success at the start of each school year. The program serves students whose families cannot afford to buy needed school supplies.
The Crayons to Calculators annual school supply drive begins in June and continues through July, as backpacks and supplies are collected. Hundreds of generous community members organize the donated school supplies and fill the donated backpacks for students in need. The drive ends with backpacks and supplies distributed to schools in the first two weeks of August.

Impact on Education is the fiduciary for Crayons to Calculators and serves as a go-to for tax and financial purposes, and provides receipts for tax deductible donations.
There are more than 9,000 families in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts who find it difficult to purchase basic school supplies for their kids. Donating a backpack full of supplies can go a long way to help these students succeed.
